Professor Conrad Blyth – Principal Consultant

Professor Blyth is an economist specialising in public policy and international economic development. Professor Blyth’s advice is highly sought by regulators and operators and he has provided authoritative commentary and developed methodologies for telecommunications economics and regulation in Asia and Australasia. He has published over 100 books and articles.

Recent projects include acting as an economic advisor for our study on licensing arrangements for third generation mobile spectrum, development of a macroeconomic model for a telecoms operator to assess the impact on the economy of future developments in public policy, and detailed analyses of regulation within the Australian and New Zealand telecoms industries. He has also provided advice on the impact of telecommunications regulatory change on the economy and on industry stakeholders in South East Asia.

Professor Blyth commenced working with Network Strategies in 1997, and has been Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Auckland since 1993. He has been a Professor of Economics at the University of Auckland since 1972, with the exception of the period 1978 to 1982 when he was Director of the Social Affairs and Industrial Relations Division at the OECD in Paris.

From 1968 to 1972, Professor Blyth was Deputy Director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research in London. Prior to that, he was a Professorial Fellow at the Australian National University, a Director of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research, and a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Cambridge. He is currently on the Board of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research and in 2004 became a Distinguished Fellow of the New Zealand Economic Association.

Professor Blyth has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and a MA First Class Honours in Economics from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
