Dr Suella Hansen Director and Founder
Suella has been active as a telecommunications economist over the past 16 years, working in numerous regulatory regimes across the globe. With a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge, she has extensive experience in examining the regulatory, financial and economic aspects of the telecoms industry.
Suella has an international reputation in the design of regulatory structures for competitive telecommunications markets. She has given expert testimony on numerous regulatory issues at semi-judicial hearings. Last year she led a World Bank telecommunications mission to Vanuatu to undertake a diagnostic review of all aspects of the telecommunications sector and to devise a roadmap for regulatory reform. Currently she is the expert telecommunications economist on the World-Bank funded team reforming the communications regulatory structure in Samoa.
Suella has a strong interest and much experience in telecommunications investment analysis and planning. Her experience includes project management of a large study in Europe to assess the requirements for network investment in Europe over two decades, involving quantitative modelling to examine the interaction of telecommunications demand, supply, technology and regulation within an overall economic framework.
Prior to founding Network Strategies in 1997, Suella was Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Network Economics and Communications at the University of Auckland. She was a Principal Consultant at Analysys Ltd in the UK from 1989 to 1996. Before moving into telecommunications, Suella commenced her career as a Business Analyst at an international investment bank in London from 1987 to 1988.
